MEET THE MAKERS

Walter Reginald Group

Walter Reginald began back in 1948, started by Walter Weiss, specialising in Sheepskins. The business grew and became a key player in the UK leather industry introducing cow suede splits from Japan to the UK market in 1953.

In 1984, having been Managing Director at Alma Leather, Raymond Farbey left to set up his own business, Formlet. Bringing in his closest friend, Malcolm Proops, they continued to grow the business together.

In 1988, Formlet, following large international success, merged with Walter Reginald to create the Walter Reginald Group Ltd., eventually buying out Walter in 1993 and opening up offices around the world.

Over the decades, Walter Reginald Group Ltd. has evolved to offer the UK’s widest range of leathers. Working closely with designers and manufacturers, the company, now owned and run by Raymond’s wife and daughters, specialises in the finest leather finishes and developing bespoke and unique effects for their customers.

For Natalie and Bianca who manage the business, leather is their passion.  Having been brought up surrounded by the touch, feel and smell of leather, their drive comes from a desire to educate their customers in the value and properties of leather.  In the throwaway culture in which we live, they feel it is important that consumers make the right choices when it comes to the materials they use and look to more natural and sustainable materials of which leather is of course a staple.

"We love to engage with our customers, working with them to find the best leather to suit their needs.  We also share our experience with universities and colleges, introducing different types of leathers and educating the students about how leather is made and what to look for when selecting the right skins for their projects." Bianca
